An actor, hired by Abel, posed as Deep Throat and met with reporters at the Hilton Hotel in New York City. He held a press conference to explain his involvement in feeding Woodward and Bernstein information that led to the Watergate scandal. Halfway through the conference, "Deep Throat" collapsed to the floor, pretending to have fainted.

The stunt was another promotional hoax for Abel's film, The Faking of a President.
